Shkalla Olive Oil, Tirana: A Century of Family Olive Oil, Organic and Award Winning
Share
Lundër, Tirana
A hundred years ago, the olives of the village of Farkë were pressed at the family mill of Ramazan Shkalla, Shpresa's grandfather. In 1995, after years of working in Germany, Shpresa came home to Tirana, and the next year she brought the family business back. She took out a loan, bought a new pressing line from Pieralisi in Italy, and started making extra virgin olive oil.
"We made extra virgin olive oil, which was not yet known in Albania."
Shpresa Shkalla (translated from Albanian)
In 2003, Bio Inspecta certified Shkalla as organic, and the oil has been sold in Switzerland and across Europe ever since. Every year since 2005 it has competed at BIOL, the international organic olive oil competition in Italy, and it has ranked among the world's top ten. In Albania you will find it in five star hotels. We have carried it since 2023.

Shpresa still checks the olives herself. When farmers bring their harvest, she goes through it olive by olive, and anything below her standard is not pressed. The olives come from local farmers between Farkë and Lushnjë, and the oil smells green, of artichoke and herbs, with almond on the palate.
