Kallmet Rezervë 2018 from UKA Winery is an elegant red wine, made from the indigenous Kallmet grape variety, generally recognized as the best red wine grape in Albania. This wine is a reflection of the rich tradition of the northern Albanian winemaking regions with the portrait of the great-grandfather of the winemaker on the label, symbolizing the heritage and attachment to the land. This is reflected in every single bottle that leaves the winery, through its dedication to quality and respect for tradition, positioning Kallmet Rezervë as the Albanian wine ambassador.
Aromas and Flavor Profile
This varietal wine displays a ruby-red color with a complex nose of red berry fruits, vanilla, and cocoa that give an even and smooth flavor profile. Four months aging with care in 500 L oak barrels gives this wine depth and a slight touch of oak, which also makes it versatile enough to stand up to so many different dishes. It has 14% alcohol, which gives the wine a full-bodied yet refined ending with soft tannins coating the palate.
Production Method
The grapes Kallmet are hand-picked from organic vineyards in the north of Albania, and at every stage of their processing, maximum attention is given. Late harvesting is followed by cryo-maceration for 48 hours, then controlled fermentation takes place for 12 to 15 days. Further aging of the wine in oak barrels, along with one-year bottle maturation, allow the development of authentic flavors typical for the Kallmet grape.
Food Pairing Suggestions and Serving Temperature
Kallmet Rezervë 2018 goes great with red meats, game, and aged cheeses. The wine opens up completely at a serving temperature of 14-16°C. Versatile for formal dinners or casual gatherings, this wine gives you a taste of Albania's enriched wine history.
