Description

Pulëz Rroshnik 2018 by UKA Winery is a very rare and exceptional Albanian white wine, produced from Pulëz grape variety originating from the area of Berat and more specifically from the homonymous village Roshnik, considered to be the oldest zone of origin of this particular grape. It is situated in a forest at 600 meters above sea level, where for decades, the grapes grew freely and were mainly consumed by the wild boars who preferred them as their favorite snack. The Pulëz vines grew in the wild, climbing trees before locals began harvesting them, giving this wine an extraordinary natural heritage.

Aromas and Flavor Profile

Pulëz Rroshnik 2018 has an intensive gold color with a very lively and fresh flavor profile of white fruits. Its structure impresses to age well, developing more and more complexity over the years. The perfect balance between the fruitiness and acidity makes the wine perfect with light dishes.

Production method

Pulëz grapes are hand-picked from a small forest vineyard. After picking, the transport of these grapes is carried out in 20kg boxes under cold conditions to preserve their freshness. After pressing, the grapes ferment at controlled temperatures for 12-15 days; then, battonage for 1 month and for 1 year natural precipitation in inox tanks. After filtering, bottling takes place so that the wine comes out absolutely pure and clean.

Food Pairing

Pulëz Roshnik 2018 is outstanding with fish and seafood, along with pasta courses. The versatility of this wine is going to make it a great choice to pair with a wide range of dishes coming from the Mediterranean diet. This wine should be served at 12°C because its freshness and delicate flavors will go well with many lighter courses of food.

Limited Production
Produced only 5,000 bottles per year, this is definitely a wine that every enthusiast of indigenous grapes and natural viticulture should try.

About the producer

Uka Winery is located in the center of Albania in the rural areas of the capital Tirana. It was established in 2005, founded by Flori Uka (winemaker), the first generation of the family in wine production. After 5 years of working in different wineries in Friuli/Veneto and 2 years of studying at the University of Udine and Conegliano in Enology, Flori returned to Albania to follow his dream of rediscovering Albania's wine values. Albania is rich in indigenous varieties and viticultural history. A history suppressed by the Ottomans and the dictatorship system. Today the new generation of winemakers is discovering the true values of this map unknown to the rest of the world. In Albania almost every rural family grows grapes. In several areas indigenous varieties are grown that have existed for hundreds of years. The vision of the Uka winery is to collect these grapes from different families throughout Albania to take the maximum potential of the same varieties. Following a cooperative-like system, Flori works with nearly 200 families throughout Albania who have indigenous grape varieties with an area of less than 1 hectare. Thus it is possible to search for the true potential of the terroir to express the maximum of our values in the wine. The purpose of the winery is to create a database of indigenous areas and varieties that are expressed to the fullest in our wines. We see our winery as a future wine museum where winelovers from around the world can come and taste Albania in a glass.
