Udha 2018 from Uka Winery is a distinctive red blend that carries the spirit of Albania’s wine regions. Its name, which means "road" in Albanian, reflects how it connects various vineyards across the country, bringing together the richness of Albanian winemaking tradition in a single bottle. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Kallmet, and Shesh i Zi, combined to produce a harmonious and well-balanced wine. Each variety comes from organic vineyards scattered across Albania, contributing flavors representative of the country’s diverse terroirs.
Aroma and Flavor Profile
Ruby red in the glass, this wine exudes bold aromas of dark berries, interwoven with spices and cedar, with subtle hints of oak aging. Full-bodied, with silky tannins, it persists to a long, satisfying finish. While blended with international varieties, the native grapes give Udha a unique character, balancing the earthy presence of Kallmet and Shesh i Zi with the fruity nature of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Production Method
The grapes come from organic vineyards, hand-harvested, and transported to the winery in 20 kg crates. A 48-hour cryo-maceration enhances flavor extraction. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures lasts 8–12 days. The wine is then aged in 500-liter oak barrels for 8 months, followed by an additional year of bottle aging, producing a refined and structured wine.
Food Pairings and Serving Temperature
Best served at 14–16°C, Udha 2018 pairs exquisitely with grilled red meats, game dishes, and aged cheeses. Its full-bodied structure and elegant finish make it a worthy companion for rich meals or to enjoy on its own.
