Shandevere
The Shandevere is a sparkling wine of exceptional character, made from
100% Puls grapes, an ancient native Albanian white variety. Its uniqueness
comes not only from the grape itself but also from the land it grows in: the vineyards
are located in the Malinat area, at an altitude of 350 to 400 meters above
sea level, arranged in terraces following the traditional giropoggio system.
The environmental and climatic conditions are extraordinary: to the east rises the majestic
Mount Tomori (2,416 m), while just a few kilometers west lies the
Adriatic coast. This combination creates a unique microclimate, characterized by
strong temperature fluctuations and constant ventilation. It allows the grapes to reach
the ideal balance of sweetness, freshness, and aromatic complexity.
The Puls grape, known for its natural minerality and salinity, offers an
elegant structure and refined aromas. Its typical floral bouquet, recalling the
local spontaneous flora and santolino, is enriched with complex fruit notes
ranging from peach to plum and even strawberry tree fruit.
The winemaking process of Shandevere follows the strict classic method:
after the first fermentation, the wine rests on the lees for a long refinement period,
and disgorging takes place no sooner than 36 months, varying slightly depending
on the vintage. This slow and patient process gives the sparkling wine its signature
finesse, complexity, and elegance.
Organoleptic Analysis
-
Appearance: it shows a brilliant, luminous crystal-clear straw yellow.
The foam is persistent, and the bubbles are numerous, fine, and continuous,
indicating a well-executed classic method and long lees aging.
-
Nose: the aroma is fairly intense, persistent, and fine, with a bouquet that blends
floral, fruity, and mineral notes. There are delicate nuances from the local flora,
especially santolino, accompanied by complex fruit aromas of peach, plum,
and strawberry tree fruit.
-
Palate: the sip is dry, being a Brut Nature (< 3 g/L of sugar), with
a balance between freshness, minerality, and alcohol warmth. The structure is
elegant and medium-bodied, with good intensity and persistence, leaving the palate
clean and harmonious.
Style and Personality
Shandevere is a sparkling wine of unique finesse and elegance, expressing
the authentic soul of Albanian viticulture and its ability to reinterpret native grapes
through internationally recognized winemaking techniques. It is ready to drink from
the moment of disgorging, yet its structure allows an interesting evolution in the
following years.
Food Pairings
Thanks to its versatility, it suits many moments at the table: perfect as a refined
aperitif, it pairs beautifully with fish dishes, shellfish, and
delicate white meats. It also surprises with desserts based on custard,
fresh fruit, or dry pastries.
Final Considerations
Shandevere is not just a classic-method sparkling wine; it is a true expression of
Albania’s pursuit of oenological excellence. It embodies history, tradition,
territory, and innovation, offering anyone who tastes it a memorable sip of identity
and refinement.
